Co–Star is the most recognisable name in the category and finished fourth on recommendations, at 19 of 50 — and during our fieldwork it lost a clean sweep for the first time.

The measured numbers
Co–Star was named in 19 of 50 audit runs: ChatGPT 7 of 17, Perplexity 4 of 16, Google Gemini 8 of 17. All runs were conducted in clean, non–personalised sessions between 26 and 31 July 2026.
Brand fame is not visibility
Co–Star is, for most people outside the category, the astrology app. It was still named in fewer runs than three less famous products, and on one of our audit questions it dropped out of two engines entirely, holding only a mid-list position on the third.
One mechanic worth studying: a large share of the text engines produce about Co–Star traces back to a single durable claim about the astronomical data behind its charts. A short, concrete, verifiable claim becomes the sentence the machine reuses — a seed phrase. Most apps have no such sentence anywhere in their material, which is why the engines describe them in interchangeable filler.
The general lesson for founders: consumer brand awareness and AI recommendation rate are separate assets, and the first does not automatically buy the second.
How that compares
